Since the 1950s Edelrid has been producing top-end climbing ropes. Pulling your Edelrid out at the crags usually left those without one feeling a little green. Family run until 2001, Edelrid was sold to the Vaude group but still operates as an independent technical climbing company – now with a much stronger ethos on innovation.
Edelrid produces a wide range of mountaineering goods, starting off with their delectable ropes, moving into harnesses and hardware and most recently, shoes and crash pads. Inline with their parent companies design principles, Edelrid ropes were the first to be certified as bluesign®. This means that every rope sold by Edelrid has created minimal environmental impact during production. Edelrid proudly says 'our ropes are clean'.
Edelrid have also embraced the belief that aesthetics are as important to most climbers as quality. With this in mind one will notice that the Edelrid colour schemes tend to run throughout their range of products. From rope to harness to chalk bag to shoes, co-ordination is factored in. Most colours are light and subtle, with a preference for neutrals, greys and earth tones.
For the climber who likes equipment that looks as good as it feels; that states quality and strength in its simplicity, Edelrid is the brand of choice.
